I just think it is better to look at real expenses against portfolio value than to look at your TIPS yield, covert stock (if you have any) returns to inflation adjusted and assume you are that much richer (poorer).
You are confusing changes in consumption with changes in the price level

It’s something that causes endless confusion in here
