Thanks all. I think I understand. Basically it is a bunch of mutual funds and some sort of insurance product. The particular two we have are no longer on their website- must be really old. One was from 2014, and other for 2012 so hoping little to no surrender fees. Is the best way to deal with this to go to either Schwab/ Vanguard and initiate a 'like transfer' since it is in a Roth IRA. My understanding is that they would transfer cash value of annuity to a Roth IRA account with Schwab. Since it is a Roth IRA to Roth IRA transfer, it should not count towards his eligibility for back door Roth this year, nor should it incur any taxes....just want to make sure I understand correctly.
