Personal Consumer Issues • Re: Filtration System for Potable Water While Camping

Sawer Squeeze might work well for solo backpacking or travel, but if you plan to go with a group or cook at camp then I'd suggest a larger gravity feed system like the Platypus Gravity Works. The Platypus filter unit works just like the Sawyers (some may actually be interchangeable), but the large reservoir bags make it easier to filter several liters of water with very little work. MSR sells a functionally identical system.

I've used one for nearly a decade of mostly wilderness canoe camping without issue. Maybe replaced the filter twice. I think the 4L bags are a sweet spot for 2-6 people, but the system is modular and scalable up or down.
+1. I used to use the Sawyer Squeeze, but retired it after seeing how superior my friend's Platypus Gravity Works system is. We have the 6L variant. When your campsite is a hike from a water source, it's great for carrying 12L back to camp (filter 6L clean at water source, then haul 6L dirty back to camp to filter after clean is used).

I'm team Platypus for life. Brilliant system.
