Often people who think their situation is "simple" are those who don't have a spouse or kids to leave assets to. Those are actually the instances in which (if you care at all what happens to your property after death) you want to be extra-careful to leave legally valid estate documents. For those without a spouse and kids, the alternative - intestacy - often means your property going to random distant family members or even escheating. Whereas if you have a spouse and kids, the result under intestacy is probably far closer to what you'd actually intend, so often less problematic.
