It is repeated almost any time anyone mentions realistic living expenses, especially in relation to early retirement.
Agreed. People often confuse anything below “desired standard of living” with “poverty”

It’s wild
I would like to see the people who are saying this show me their monthly budget. Currently I live in a SoCal HCOL city. I did buy a house a while ago so my mortgage is 2k a month, but even with that with prop tax etc my yearly housing costs are 40k/year. With food, transportation, netflix etc, I spent 65k in my HCOL city in 2024. My gym is 29/month. Walking by the beach is free. Hanging out at the pool is free. Books are cheap. I really don't know what people spend their money on.
Maybe we need to analyzes people's budgets to see what they spend their money on before they can tell us you need 80k in Seattle as a retiree.
