Personal Consumer Issues • Re: How do you all even find a new place to live?

when i moved interstate for the first real job after finishing university, new workplace was an R&D-ish place sited next to a local university. so there was a lot of student accommodation near by, many share houses and other places to rent in the area within walking distance of work. from memory i flew down for a day a few weeks prior to the start date, checked out a few places that were advertising rooms to rent and picked one. then moved & spent the first year there. first real job paid for an interstate removal service, which was nice of them.

it wasn't a great place to live, but a basic place to live is a lot better than no place to live, and solved the immediate interstate-move logistics problem, and was a way to make a start. once living in the new city it was easier to investigate other suburbs on my own schedule and then then make a planned move to a place that was a better long-term fit.
