It has not been brought up yet, so I will. Part time work.
I was on an upward trend of corporate management making very good money. Eventually I got tired of being responsible 24/7 despite the very good pay. Once I felt we had enough money to retire comfortably, I stepped back and went part time as did my spouse. I think for us it was the best decision. We get long weekends all the time. We have 1-2 weeks off for extensive travel. Plenty of time for hobbies and exercise. We eat healthier, and we do more physical activity.
I am the kind of person that if left to my own volitions I would stay up late till 2-3am everynight and sleep in every morning. By having work intermixed to daily life, I stay a bit more grounded to a regular schedule. Plus, we get to make some extra cash which has increased our ability so spend on some wants and luxuries. Part time work keeps us more social and keeps our mind active.
I would say if one has the ability to go part time, I would definitely recommend it as a consideration as opposed to early retirement. Still being in our late 40s and kids at home, it has worked out great for us so far.
