I just visited the Merriman website and their website does mention Alternatives. When I visited their site a couple of years ago, they had someone who was Director of Alternatives though I don't see that now. Paul and his son retired and sold the firm, a few of the people who worked for Paul are still there but there does seem to be a shift in their philosophy since the sale. I recognized four names from the days when Paul still ran things. They are big believers in Financial Planning, all of their Wealth Advisors are Certified Financial Planners.
But what whatever reason, apart from Larry Swedroe, I don't think I can remember anybody citing articles recommending these funds. It's not as if Paul Merriman added them at the same time Larry Swedroe did, or anything like that.
Their website also lists such things as SMA's, Direct Indexing, Trend Following, ESG and Value Based Portfolios, Option Collar Strategies, and Tax Loss Harvesting. So it appears they have branched out, I know when Paul ran things they had a Market Timing service but mostly were a factor tilting and DFA shop. I don't see DFA mentioned anywhere on their website.
