The software limits quotes to be nested up to 5 deep, but that doesn't address how long the quotes can get.

There's probably an admin setting to adjust this. The 5 is used when someone starts writing by quoting a post and the inserted quote depth is truncated at that point. If you set it to 3, maybe it would alleviate some of the problem

otw I have a bookmarklet that I sometimes use to remove clutter on the screen. Here's a version that just removes all embedded quote blocks

Bookmarklets don't seem to gain much traction around here. They are probably hard to add and use on tablets and phones. Maybe we could just add a bunch of tool icons to the post footer with some of this functionality.

See the mockup below which adds an abbrev lookup button, a ticker quote button, and a button to collapse all the embedded quotes on the page (which can be re-expanded by clicking on them)
