Honestly even at 24 inches 1080p is not great, text will be fairly pixelated. I would recommend 1440p (aka QHD) even for that size.I agree with the post above.
For a small monitor (24" or less) you'll want 1080p.
For a 27" monitor 1440p is a perfect resolution
For a 32" or larger monitor 4k is a good resolution
