Tragically, if Mom's assets were joint with Horrid Sister, then there is nothing to probate, the will is useless. If there are any personal effects, you might ask for them. Blame falls slightly on your mother for setting things up this way - she had the power to enforce fairness and was too trusting or naive. But most of the blame falls squarely on your Horrid Sister, who has morally ripped you off and defrauded your mother's wishes. What relationship? Can you really see her in the future and overlook this? Would be hard for me. I would probably tell everyone in the family about this.
I have a good friend who has been engaged for some time (over a year) and with a great deal of legal expense trying to recover assets her father intended to leave her - but which happen to have been at the house he left his girlfriend. This man knew for over a year that his daughters wanted the family photos, their Mother's family furniture, and he did nothing to ensure they got it. Sure, the will leaves it to them, but practically unenforceable. We all need to be more careful setting up our heirs for legal quagmires.
