I agree with all of your points although I still appreciate the G Fund for what it is, a nice stable value fund for some "safe" money. With that said, I plan on moving a large percentage of my TSP to Fidelity when I turn 59 1/2 where I will have a lot more flexibility. I will be moving 100% of my Roth TSP funds when first eligible.
You pay for the G fund with LOW rates of return. Right now, it's paying 3% and many money market investments pay 4.5% or higher. I have $1.3M in TSP and I'm planning to move it all to my Fidelity account. Too many strings attached to my TSP account and their ROR's are not the best deal anymore.
