You pay for the G fund with LOW rates of return. Right now, it's paying 3% and many money market investments pay 4.5% or higher. I have $1.3M in TSP and I'm planning to move it all to my Fidelity account. Too many strings attached to my TSP account and their ROR's are not the best deal anymore.I agree with all of your points although I still appreciate the G Fund for what it is, a nice stable value fund for some "safe" money. With that said, I plan on moving a large percentage of my TSP to Fidelity when I turn 59 1/2 where I will have a lot more flexibility. I will be moving 100% of my Roth TSP funds when first eligible.
