Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Has your lived experience influenced your investment choices?

My grand parents and taylors family experience losing it all in the stock market in the depression influenced me. I have always kept at least a third in gov bonds even with a gov pension. 50% in Vti and 15% in Vxus and 5 year treasury ladder.

Even as a conservative investor over the 45 years I have invested I have a low 7 figure portfolio and paid off houses. We are the lucky ones.
Similar experiences and a similar asset allocation for me. I would add that I worked very hard for my money and at my stage in life I'm not willing to risk losing it. Actually, I wish I had more in bonds but selling stocks just to buy more bonds isn't worth the capital gains tax.
I get it, I can rebalance in Ira. Maybe smaller taxable moves can work each year.
