Someone else gets to decide what the rate of inflation is. My personal inflation rate over the past four years has been much higher than the stated rate. True, they are better than nothing, I guess.
Instead of better than nothing, I consider more in the category of "good enough". The positives are that the income TIPS produces is deterministic vs. CPI-U. Not being perfect for my personal situation is the reason I wouldn't go 100% TIPS. Heck, I wouldn't go 100% anything for that matter...
