I did it this year, so I hope so.

Here's a post from Spirit Rider who sadly no longer posts here, but who I consider a definitive expert on all things solo 401(k), confirming that the properly filed extension extends the contribution deadline regardless of when you actually file..
Thanks for finding that.

While a direct reference was not provided, it's good enough for me.

I'd rather file as early as possible so that the IRS "gets to work" on my return. If they are going to find a problem I'd rather know sooner than later. But then I'll still have until October to look for pennies in the seat cushions to actually fund the 401k. :D
