Once you did a transaction when was your account updated with the number of new shares in your holding? It should be immediately updated with cost basis, etc. If you click on "Activity" (at other brokers "History") you should see every transaction including those a microsecond ago. One should not have to wait for an overnight computer run for one's account to be updated.
When I've clicked on the "Holdings" tab after making a trade, the "Quantity" column within the account has shown the new number of shares based on the purchases or sales I just made. The "funds available to trade" on the order screen also updates immediately after the purchase.
Only using $... Having specific ID and having to trad in units is more complex. V has a warning about multiple sales in the same security because the fractional units and the cost basis info are not updated during the trade - the warning is really saying "We don't know how to code properly, so give us a day to figure out the right info".
