Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Re: Where were you financially when you were at 30?

Aged 30 in 2004, I was married. Looking back, we owned a house worth $200k with a $100k mortgage, my wife's parents had given us $100k which was an amazing start in life. Other than that we had pretty much no other financial assets. We were not financially aware, or driven.

Through my 30s I became more financially aware, and in particular the books "millionaire next door" and "failsafe investing" influenced my behaviour.

We gradually shored things up. Now aged about 50, still married, own our house with no mortgage, and while we are not wealthy by Boglehead standards we have a comfortable amount of financial investments, a lifestyle we like, and no major financial worries.

Slow and steady with a good start and a fair wind, I guess. We probably could have been wealthier if we had got with the program earlier, but I don't regret the life we have lived so far.
