Not necessarily. Most academic/merit scholarships do not require information from FAFSA. A few do. You can easily find from the web sites of the colleges your children apply to whether that particular school requires FAFSA. None of the 12 or so schools my kids applied to required it.Just tell your kid that you plan to pay for college, so there's no point in her applying for aid. Then you can both save the trouble.
2. Due to my level of compensation alone, my oldest isn't going to be eligible for any sort of grants. Her grades aren't *that* awesome that she's been awarded scholarships so at this point the only purpose for all of this would be to apply for student loans. I do not intend to take out any sort of loans, I've already been prepared that when this time comes I'll just be paying the tuition bills as they arrive.
It's not a requirement to attend school, but it is a requirement to get any kind of aid. Even Academic or sports scholarships want you to do FAFSA to make sure you aren't getting grants first.
