The factory reset fixed it all.Strangely if I log into Tracfone it shows her account with the minutes, texts, and data. Shows the new number. But the phone itself won't make calls. Or texts. Much as I've loved the value of TF, I can say that activation has never been easy, I've never done it successfully without intervention - and that's not just b/c I wanted to roll my minutes. But it was never worse than today - 2h on the phone with no resolution.
I had already done the factory reset - but as part of the intended return process. But I hadn't returned it yet. I just took it out of its box and, not expecting anything - well how about that! I could hardly believe it.
Funny, I suggested it as a potential course of action to the CSR, but he preferred to pursue other potential fixes.
After I ship this to mom, I'll have one more to set up - my own. I guess I'll start with a factory reset!
