Hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity.Other than producing hydrogen you still have to transport, store, and deliver and make it available to millions of people. Electricity runs in wires and if you add local/regional generation from solar and wind then it is much easier. What are the fundamental problems with hydrogen that electricity doesn't also have?
Production is not very efficient or cost-effective and primarily utilizes fossil fuels for both. But the fuel cells are still more efficient, yeah? And charging times are faster for hydrogen fuel cells than batteries. And they're getting better at it.
Is there anything particularly wrong with building and maintaining infrastructure to support as many energy sources as possible?
Sometimes the wind blows more or the sun shines longer or the water flows stronger. Hydrogen allows the excess to be stored and used for the other times.
