We are lucky.$700/yr seems extraordinarily low and unsustainable for landscaping, tennis, pickleball, club house and pool. It's not being funded in any other way?Central new Yorker that snow birds in Tampa st Pete area. We are retired age 64. The two I have visited at are Lakewood ranch in Sarasota Florida area - nice place with lots of neighborhoods of families and a few over 55 communities. Some have golf, pickleball, club houses, bars, restaurants etc. lots of info on line for it. We visited there yesterday to see what it was like. Lots of price ranges and builders. The other is the villages in central Florida near ocala. Lots of retirees and lots of activities. Lots of info on line. All over 55 as I understand it.
At age 60 in 2020 we decided to buy a house where we knew people and have family nearby in a deed restricted community (so neighbors can’t leave their cars and boats on jacks in their front yard) with a club house /pool on the intercoastal and the house being out of a flood zone. We pay 700 a YEAR in HOA fees. We have a couple of tennis and pickleball courts, pool, boat launch, etc. Not the number of activities you might want if you are going to want to meet people. Joining golf, pickleball, meet up groups, Walking groups, churches, etc may be ideas you brainstorm about. Good luck!
The houses in our 600 household HOA only pay 700 a year and the condos pay higher traditional monthly fees. It’s well run.

Wife and I in high school used to drive by the neighborhood (west coast of florida in between st Pete and Clearwater) in 70’s on the intercoastal and we’d say who gets to live there!? 40 years of work and a little boglehead’s saving we were able to get a place in 2020.
