No, this is not true, except in the rare instance you want items to be sized identically across the 2 displays without software scaling. In which case, you want to have the same pixel density.It is my understanding that in order for things to work "seamlessly" at that size I would need a 6K resolution
You are free to buy whatever monitor you want.
-99.5% of the people docking laptops to external monitors treat them as independent displays.
-a 32" screen is large enough for side-by-side viewing without needing laptop display.
-MacOS does extremely good job at scaling anyway
