Great answer. I might use this technique when I am feeling frisky.Around 1994 or so some young hire at an EJ office I was walking by started telling me he could show me how to invest my funds. He than suggested I should show him some of my investment statements. I suggested he should show me HIS statements and his own portfolio first, and he thought I was getting "too personal". I told him that if he was wanting to build a fence for me I would want to see the fence he built for himself first. His qualifications: a BA in Business. This was his first job.
I used to work closely with guys at a PE firm. Their personal portfolios were 100% into an S&P 500 index fund despite the fact that they were selling clients into their funds.
