A few random thoughts.@Watty -- They're all my lawns.
If these are something like rental or commercial properties then be sure to look into deducting the cost of the mower as a business expense.
Compared to paying someone to do it the mower will pay for itself in well less than a year.
I know nothing about that size mower but if the alternative to the expensive equipment is something like a $12k(?) piece of equipment which might be the minimum you could use then going with the more expensive option would be an $8K splurge on something which might last another 20 years. Thinking of is as an $8K splurge may be easier to rationalize. Judging by the amount of land you own I would suspect that spending $8K will not be a financial issue.
You may still be able to sell your old equipment for a modest amount to someone who will fix it themself.
With whatever you get ge sure to secure it and insure it since it might attract more interest than your 20 year old equipment.
