You get whatever interest has been paid out while holding the bond fund shares (which you may or may not have chosen to reinvest by purchasing more shares of the fund when each distribution was made) and also the amount that your shares are worth at the time you sell them, which may be less or more than you paid for them.Thanks everyone. I’ll definitely check out the wikI. The main thing I was curious about was for an individual bond you have to hold to maturity to get the interest rate paid out. But for a rolling bond fund like bnd with an effective maturity of 6.5 years if I recall correctly, if you sell shares after 8 years for example, do you get some interest paid out and then the amount held that was purchased between years 6.5 and 8 you don’t get interest but only the principal?
