Personal Consumer Issues • Re: What’s going on with Uber prices ?

Supply and demand mismatch can lead to congestion pricing. Airport to home is typically $30 by cab and less than $25 by Lyft/Uber...
That is not enough of a discount for me to hand data scraping rights on my phone to the Uber/Lyft app, before even worrying about the variability of driver, car, and insurance.
To each their own, as I'm not bothered by the concerns you raise, and I'd select rideshare over taxi even if the price were identical. I suspect rideshare is also the default option for the large majority of my peers.
Locally, I can order a taxi with a web browser just as easily as requesting an Uber with an app. It then texts me a link to a web page that shows the dispatched cab's position on a map in real time as it travels to pick me up. When the cab shows up, I can change my plan and go to a different destination, even during the route. I can even abort midway and only pay the meter up to that point. And the funds paid stay in the local economy (with the taxi company I use).
