Another vote for keeping what you have. Sound thru a HiFi stereo setup with good speakers is, in my opinion, better than what any soundbar could deliver. This is because an increase in volume with good speakers sounds better than any surround sound effects a smaller soundbar can create. In fact, I have a 7.1 surround sound system in my living room and a stereo setup in my bedroom, and I think that in most cases surround sound simply ok at best and gimmicky at worst. YMMV, but while I can hear the surround effects, they really don't add much to my tv watching experience. Listening to music, on the other hand, deserves a great set of stereo speakers.
In addition to an HDMI splitter, you can also get a little DAC that will take the digital sound signal from your television (either optical or coaxial) and convert it to a RCA output to connect to your preamp. About $20 or so.
