Snakes are everywhere in the US. Most are harmless, most are beneficial in keeping out other critters. Accept it as part of life and call an exterminator. A glue trap is cruel.
Remove the bird feeders, pull the mulch away from the house, trim bushes and trees away from the house. Hire a professional to remove the animal and to eliminate areas where they may get into the house.

Note that in VA and most states it is illegal to kill a snake or other animal unless in imminent danger. That means to protect livestock or family. They are considered "non-game" and thus protected. Some states are very specific on which snakes can be killed and how close to a house they must be. There are three venomous species in VA for example: Copperheads, Cottonmouths and Timber Rattlesnake, it's illegal to kill any of them unless they present an imminent danger.
