It occurs to me that a good starting asset allocation in retirement for a 30X portfolio would be 34% SPIA, 33% bonds, 34% stocks. No rebalancing. So, you get a rising equities glidepath, which all the experts say is good; and your basics covered by SPIA and (presumably) S.S.

Cookie-cutter I know, but adjust to taste.
I very much like this suggestion. The only flaw I see is that it would only be worth it if you were getting significantly more per month from the SPIA than from the bonds. In order for that to happen you would have to purchase the SPIA when you're in your eighties. At that age, most people aren't going to significantly restructure their investments.
