The issue is that many here have an unrealistic picture of Vanguard. That Vanguard is owned by its shareholders means little or nothing to those who own shares in its funds. My suspicion is that Vanguard executives seek to maximize their compensation just as executives at other firms do. The idea that Vanguard is this altruistic beacon in a sea of profit hungry asset managers is greatly exaggerated.
