Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Re: Post-NAR Settlement Buyer Commission Megathread [National Association of Realtors]

The news and forums keep talking about this, but I can't figure out for the life of me why anyone is expecting a big change.

Totally agree.

Also I haven't seen this here or in the news - it's easy to believe that real estate attorneys' fees will be going up! (Meaning it was one thing when the lawyer was vetting a deal and now it sounds like some buyers are saying they'll go without a broker and "just" have a lawyer instead - with lots of previously-done-by-the-broker hand-holding, what?, now being expected of the lawyer? Will be interesting to see how that pans out.)

Sellers will probably often still have brokers for things like making sure a potential buyer is pre-approved for a mortgage before showing a home and to avoid any sort of discrimination issues.

The reports all say this ruling will make houses cost less fee-wise but it's also easy to believe it will make them cost the exact same, or more. Law of unintended consequences with so many variables and so many expecting to "get a better deal" now.
