question:to op:In my retirement accounts I’ve moved 10% of my Roth IRA, IRA, and HSA into (speculations). I did this, because I believe in them and think they may be worth the risk. Even if the 10% goes to zero, I will still be OK with my retirement accounts, as I’m not planning on retiring anytime soon and I’d get bored if I wasn’t working. Is this a sound thing to do or stupid?
The rest of my money is roughly 75% US total market and 25% International with 1/2 of that in emerging markets.
ETA - 45 years old and total retirement investments are roughly 400k currently. I predict that I’ll want around 50k a year at retirement and want to retire around 55 years old.
question:
1
What are "speculations"?
2
What are the duration or length of investing in a "speculation"?
3
Is investing in a "speculation" a "buy and hold" approach, or sell high/buy low "trading" (TD Ameritrade) sort of thing?
4
Or, is "speculating" as you describe for yourself (not others), more a matter of short/medium term investing in things like, or related to:
Defense Industry? (raetheon, northrom grumman, etc)
Space X (all related)
DJI, makers of quadcopters/drones
Just some examples and how would such "speculating" fit into your overall portfolio allocation????

I am genguinely curious how you would structure "speculating" into a "bogleheads" portfolio, where it would fit and how it would work n the scheme of things, if possible at all. How would you make it work? Is it like using "buckets" but where there's a "bucket" for "speculating. The SB bucket?j Image may be NSFW.ETA - 45 years old and total retirement investments are roughly 400k currently. Just some examples and how would such "speculating" fit into your overall portfolio allocation???? Not these because Wars come and go. I'm looking long term for digital storage of wealth with global adoption quickly growing. But I've been part of it and following it for over a decade.

I put it into it's own 10% bucket and am planning to just let it grow or do whatever it does. When I retire then I'd consider if I want to rebalance it back to 10% if it grows to much
