Personal Consumer Issues • Re: Free (modest cost) things to enjoy in Kauai

I'm wondering why a more expensive island was chosen with a request for less expensive recreation, instead of vice versa? Have you already visited all of the other islands, so you are wanting to see all of them once, instead of just enjoying the same good weather and pleasant activities at some place previously visited? Yes, there are many places that should be seen once, then move on to the next sites without intending to every revisit some of them.

We liked our car trips to our favorite places scattered around on the Big Island after a direct flight from the mainland to Hilo, instead of spending time changing planes in Honolulu. We found that we liked visiting places better than the airborne sight-seeing tours, i.e. bright red, flowing lava at night! I haven't looked, but YouTube will now likely have numerous films of drone tours for research before your future visits.
I’ve been to all of the islands, including Molokai and Lana’i, multiple times. Kauai > Hawaii, just for the sheer beauty of the place. If I were advising someone who was only going to Hawaii once in their life, I would send them to Kauai. Unless they were looking specifically for a volcano (Hawaii), a party (Oahu or Maui), a cat sanctuary (Lana’i) or an authentic native Hawaiian experience (Molokai).

For someone who wants to get outdoors and hike, I would *definitely* say Kauai. There is hiking there that’s unlike anyplace else I’ve been in the world.
