Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Re: 2025 - Where do you bank and why?

I use a local CU, B of A, and Ally. Mostly for redundancy in case there is ever an issue with an account being restricted for some reason. That's never happened in over 30 years, but I still maintain this system

I use the B of A checking account for online bill payments, with three utility bills and one credit card bill set up. Last year I tried to use Ally bill pay for these bills. I think both banks use the same background processor for bill pay (because the confirmation numbers for payments are same format). Setting up the bill pay for these accounts at Ally was simple, and I used Ally to pay these bills for one month with no issues at all. I still use B of A for paying these bills, but could use Ally if there was ever an issue with B of A. Point being that changing the bank used to pay bills doesn't necessarily have to be difficult, and setting up two banks to pay the same bill adds a bit of redundancy. Of course, I do not have these bills on auto draft, I manually push the payments every month.
