The USPS is a shell of what they once were and in my experience lost letters and parcels are common and require a high level of vigilance. The USPS lost a certified letter I sent to the IRS in 2022. The lost letter resulted in me getting sued by the IRS in US tax court for failing to respond to a tax deficiency. My local postmaster explained that certified mail is only certification that something was mailed —and he refused to refund the money I spent on postage/certification. I’ve filed three claims for missing parcels in the last 12 months after tracking said all three were delivered. One of those was found and delivered to my next door neighbor. My advice to the OP is to jump on that tracking number and raise a flag sooner rather than later.Agree tracking can be delayed sometimes. I’d give it another 3-4 days from expected delivery date and then reach out to the post office for a trace.
I did have once instance many years ago when a certified letter was actually lost and never recovered, so it can happen but quite rare. Never did find out what happened to that one, fortunately the recipient was understanding given the receipts and all worked out.
