I would agree with this. Some of the responses are close to asking dentists to commit malpractice to save one or two hundred dollars a year.As a mid-career dentist I truly appreciate all that the Boglehead community has done for me to improve my knowledge about finances. I am lucky to be at a point that I really don't need to see as many patients or do procedures I do not enjoy since I have made savings a priority.
That being said, many posts on this thread are discouraging about the lack of knowledge this forum has about dentistry. There are areas in life to save money on, and healthcare is probably an area I would look for the best. I have a chain dental office locally that charges less for procedures, but also over diagnoses and does poor dentistry. These patients often come to my office to get treatment fixed and I really feel for them having to pay again and have more work that could have been avoided.
My main takeaway is that the Bogleheads community gives great financial advice and generally below average dental advice.
