I have a Bose Wave radio from 1992 that I'm very happily using with a WiiM Pro Plus streaming box. This is overkill for your needs, but it sounds great, works with Airplay and Bluetooth, and is within your price range -- especially if you wait for a sale, they're discounted heavily around the holidays. I also have the slightly cheaper WiiM Pro and it sounded just as good to my ears. Haven't tried the Mini so can't comment on that.
I tried adding an external bluetooth connection to my Bose Wave IV CD radio (my model has no built in bluetooth) to try to use the speakers that way, but I wasn't able to get it working. Maybe I didn't buy the right device, there are hundreds of those available too. The Bose does still work as a radio at least. If you have a suggestion on something I can plug into the audio in jack on the Bose that would enable my iPhone to talk to it and successfully use the Bose I'm open to that. The built in Bose speakers are good enough for now at least.
Right. You set the WiiM up and connect it to your wifi once using the app, and then you can play music straight from the iPhone through Airplay. You can also connect it through ethernet if that's more convenient. You do need to have your iPhone connected to your wifi, but most people do that anyway.I haven't used Airplay before - that requires a wifi connection and for the speakers/device to connect to wifi, right?
