I could not help but reply when seeing the recent posts. We are moving to Madison, too, in early August. But DH and I certainly don't want to own a home again.
We were fortunate to locate a penthouse apartment in the heart of downtown. Or, in the immortal words of George Jefferson "we're moving on up, to the east side, to that deluxe apartment in the sky"!
I am blaming this forum, and its previous posts on "die with zero" for this massive departure from frugality. It's so unlike us.
Incidentally, the condo we sold in South Florida, being 42 years of age, has dropped about 35% from what we sold it at in March of 2023. (We spent the last year here in Rochester Minnesota).
In any case, the FL older condo market is taking a hit. Even ours, in an association which did special assess to refill its reserves, got its structural integrity studies done, and has completed $2 million dollars worth of structural repairs. It's the best old condo on the block and its prices are still suppressed. So glad, we escaped that falling sword.
