As I read this thread, I keep theorizing that Berkshire Hathaway cares about the voting rights associated with the shares, because it often has That Many Shares. So receiving dividends without selling shares would be useful. This isn't an issue for the normal investor.I guess Berkshire Hathaway could just sell shares of those stocks in its portfolio.... (with proper notification of the investing authorities, of course.)
I'm not saying there's any validity in my theory.
