2FA via text message should be your last resort and if your account offers 2FA via authentication code via app or app pushed authentication you could set this up before you leave. Either option would have no issues if you are traveling abroad.
Many people use their Google Voice number so they can receive 2FA codes while they are abroad. Otherwise, if you have no other option, you could look into the costs to receive texts while abroad.
